How Airbag works?

These quickly inflatable airbags are discreetly concealed in different parts of a car. At the time of collision of the car or in the event of an accident these airbags automatically gets inflated and acts as a buffer between the occupants of the car and any hard car object like the steering wheel. Airbag is considered as a passive safety material as it does not require any input or action from the occupant unlike the active safety materials like seat belts where the occupants of a car need to fasten them.

Airbag was invented in 1960s and was applied to passenger cars in the middle of 1970s. At that time the airbags are considered as an alternative to seat belts. In the year 1984 airbags became mandatory for any passenger cars.

At present a number of airbags are positioned in the inside of a car to provide extra safety to the occupants of a car at the time of any automotive collision. The names of the airbags are given according to their positions or according to the body parts that it protects. Some of the most common types of airbags include side impact airbags and dual stage airbags.
